The project brief set by the NHS Trust was to enhance Emergency Care patient experience and redesign, integrate and streamline the patient pathway.
The key project objective was to create an audio/visual separation of Adult and Children facilities within the Emergency Care. This allowed for enhanced levels of security and fulfilled the Trust’s statutory and moral requirements for privacy and dignity. The dedicated areas were achieved with a central reception located within a new build glazed entrance extension. The separation not only provided tailored environments to Adult and Children’s departments, but has increased accessibility and activity, whilst reducing waiting times.
This focus on detail, materials and colours provided an enhancement of the patient and visitor experience which is believed will provide a therapeutic environment and contribute to the provision of treatment. Where circulation is necessary, wayfinding is enhanced by the use of colour and lighting design within the ceilings, and flooring.
