Many of the innovations and best practice learned on the Asda Swansea project were again put into practice on the 45,000sqft sales floor store in Wrexham to achieve a store opening 13 weeks after start on site. This was achieved using prefabrication and modularisation as well as redesigning areas of the front of house to make them more efficient. The major departure on this project was the use of Densiphalt rather than concrete as a floor slab. Densiphalt is a bituminous based product onto which is poured a micro-silica cement which achieves it’s full bearing capacity within 24 hours and does not require any drying time, thereby being entirely suited to such a fast track programme.
