The scheme comprises the doubling of storage capacity of the existing resource centre and provision of new landscaping for the surrounding site. Funding for the scheme is partially funded through the heritage lottery fund.
The resource centre provides archive storage of exhibits for both Beamish, North of England Open Air Museum and the Tyne and Wear Museums. An area of the building can be utilised as a presentation and/or teaching space for parties and the general public.
The collections room provides full A.V facilities with the prospect of live internet cameras to enable the stored collections to be shown to much wider audiences than was previously possible.
The surrounding site is landscaped to provide better access to the facilities but maintaining an image in sympathy with its surroundings.
