A specialised extension on a demanding site, this single storey building has been designed with a commitment to quality.
The material selection was required to be sympathetic to its surroundings, yet brave in order to push the boundaries of quality design on the site. Whilst the exterior has shown an attention to detail, and uses bold, crisp, clean & sustainable materials, the emphasis on design quality is firmly fixed on the users of the building, with a high quality of internal spaces.
The central corridor used rooflights to maximise natural light into the building, providing a pleasant and inviting environment for patients and visitors.
The building was commended by South Tyneside Council in their Good Design Awards 2006.
