This complex scheme was an adaptation and extension to an existing three storey Multi Storey Car Park at Sunderland Royal Hospital into a six storey acute health block incorporating two floors of theatres, three floors of wards and one floor offices.
The scheme involved extending the existing steel frame up a further three storeys after verifying that the extra load could be supported then constructing a lightweight steel framed building with concrete pot and beam floors, curved standing seam metal deck roof, rendered façade and UPVC windows. The services aspects of the scheme were also extremely complex and provided a particular co-ordination challenge.
The Practice acted as Lead Consultant, for the scheme, chairing all meetings and liaising with the client team at all stages of the project from feasibility to site completion. This also included preparation of all room data, room elevations and fully loaded plans.
