Fire Control Centre, Belmont Business Park, Durham
Won in competition, this is one of nine Regional Fire Control Centres across the country, and provides approximately 30kftsq of office space over three floors. Designed in a contemporary style, using predominantly facing brickwork, the building has a very high thermal efficiency and air leakage rate four times that required by the current building regulations. Aluminium rainscreen cladding, cedar rainscreen and stainless steel mesh were also incorporated into the design. The building won the Journal Landmark award for best office building in 2007.
