Following a report carried out by Lord Darzi, the Independent Reconfiguration Panel recommended the alteration and improvement of Maternity, Paediatric, Postgraduate and Physiotherapy Services along with the Trust Headquarters at the hospitals of North Tees and Hartlepool.
The Assisted Reproduction Unit completed in August 2008 saw the development of a new ultra-modern department for persons going through a process of fertility treatment. The facilities were designed to give couples the dignity, privacy and respect they deserve.
Hartlepool Hospitals New Birthing Centre was opened after a six month refurbishment plan. The centre has four delivery rooms each offering different equipment to encourage women to move around in labour and provide alternative delivery. The users of the unit were heavily involved with the design which tries to create a relaxed, home-from-home atmosphere.
The clinical equipment was concealed from view by carefully positioned built in units and designed to house the necessary medical equipment.
