Development of five storey 202 bed 3*+ Jurys Inn hotel on the Gateshead Quays bank of the River Tyne on a very tight sensitive site adjacent to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Detailed consultation was necessary with the local authority and constant reference to the Tyne Gorge study to achieve planning approval in April 2009. A key influence in the design process was the protection of significant views of the Tyne Bridge identified in the study. These had a major impact on both the height and massing of the building. The hotel opened in August 2011.
Designed by members of the team whilst at Dewjo’c Architects.
