The practice was commissioned to prepare a scheme to redevelop a 4 acre site of land adjacent to the client’s existing premises. Plans were drawn up to provide a 1,500sqm storage facility with associated access road, service yard and car parking. As part of the proposals, environment agency approval was sought to partially divert an existing watercourse crossing the site.
The new build’s environmental impact was taken very seriously and the client invested heavily in renewable energy sources with the provision of the latest solar photovoltaic systems, on-site sewage treatment plant and even a highly thermally insulated high speed shutter door which can open or close in just 3 seconds.
During the construction, the client offset the carbon footprint by planting an excess of 1,400 trees and shrubs including Norwegian maple, sycamore, ash, oak, silver birch, hazel dog rose and elder.
