The project brief was to provide a design which demonstrated the best practice in current thinking, an obvious understandable layout with ease of orientation. The primary aim was the reproduction of a domestic lifestyle with activity spaces within the main living areas.
As well as the provision of quality and variety of spaces, a therapeutic environment was essential to stimulate calm and reassurance, with choice available to cater for individual needs.
The plan form provides ease of nursing observation with privacy and dignity, a safe environment to encourage trust, ease of movement through wards and ancillary spaces, with unobtrusive observation, all providing a solution made from robust sustainable materials. A true demonstration of the collaborative design development process provided by the P21 form of procurement.
